President Donald Trump’s campaign said Monday it would not be attending the Democratic National Convention this summer in Florida because of the state’s strict gun laws.
Trump’s campaign issued a statement Monday saying it was canceling its campaign bus tour to Florida.
It also said it was postponing its Florida fundraising event with Republican Gov.
The campaign said in a statement that the Florida laws are “excessive and counterproductive” and said it would work with the local sheriffs’ offices to change them.
The Florida Republican Party issued a response to the campaign’s decision saying it is a “disgrace” for Trump to ignore the law and to “ignore the will of Florida’s law-abiding citizens.”
Trump has previously said he doesn’t like the gun laws in Florida, and he’s also criticized the Florida Democratic Party for supporting them.
